YAMUNANAGAR: The death of a two-year-old child after being run over by a school bus on Tuesday led to the National Senior Secondary School being attacked. The principal and few children had to jump from the roof to save their lives.

Two-year-old Gulshan, a resident of Veena Nagar, who was run over by under the school bus died on the spot. In no time, hundreds of the people assembled near the school and allegedly set fire to a scooter and other vehicles parked inside the school.

They also smashed the window panes of three buses and also burnt the principal's office and few class rooms.

There were 3,000 students in the campus at that time. The school staff however managed to bring the children out and started sending them to their houses. But, for the timely action of the school management, the things could have been worse.

A fire brigade was summoned and the fire controlled. Sub-divisional magistrate Jagtar Singh and deputy superintendent of police, headquarters Surinder Malik also reached the spot. When the situation went out of control, police resorted to a mild lathicharge.

The school management while expressing sorrow over the death of a child, blamed the bus driver for the accident.

The district administration said that appropriate action will be taken against the erring bus driver, but asserted that lawlessness would not be tolerated.
