Malawian president Dr Bingu wa Mutharika has ordered police to find and arrest football hooligans who have caused riots over the last two weekends.
Mutharika's orders come after the latest acts of violence on Saturday as Bakili Bullets drew 1-1 with Enyimba of Nigeria in the Champions League.
Bakili Bullets needed a win to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
But when the home side only managed a draw, at Malawi's biggest ground the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, fans began throwing stones towards the players.
Referee Eugene Colembi from Angola was struck by one of the stones, fortunately he was not injured.
The incident repeated scenes of the previous weekend when Malawi's national side drew 2-2 with Tunisia in a 2006 World Cup qualifier.
Minister of Sport, Henry Chimunthu Banda told BBC Sport that the president was not happy with Saturday's violence which resulted thousands of dollars worth of damage to property.
"The president was so angry that he telephoned me soon after the match issuing the orders," the minister said.
"He has also ordered the formation of a task force that would look at the reasons behind these acts of football violence and hooliganism to try and stop the problems once and for all."
The minister said he would name members of the task force before the end of this week.
He added that it would comprise officers of the Malawi police force, the Football Association of Malawi, the government's sports bodies, the National Sports Council and senior officials from local clubs.
