Muttahida appeals for calm

By our correspondent

KARACHI: The Muttahida Quami Movement has appealed to masses of Sindh in general and specially of Karachi to remain peaceful and not to fall prey to evil designs to mar the tranquility of the city. In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Muttahida's Convenor, Dr Imran Farooq said that certain criminal elements had been trying to disrupt the peace of the city under an organised conspiracy.

In pursuance of this design, he said, using any incident occurring in the city as pretext, they resort to ransacking, arson, and rioting spoiling peace of the metropolis. He said that violence on Saturday in the aftermath of killing of Dr Ibne Hassan were also part and parcel of the same design. He said some unidentified armed persons on Sunday carried out ransacking, violence, and terrorism in N Nazimabad to achieve the same evil scheme.

The Muttahida leader also flayed the role of certain so-called religious parties who were found involved in fanning public sentiments of making their emotions under control for peace and harmony. He again asked the citizens to keep their sentiments in control and remain calm and peaceful to foil every bid at spoiling the peace of the city.
